How does YouTube manage harmful content? | YOUTUBE'S MISSION

YouTube is an open video platform where anyone can upload videos and share them with the world. While this openness offers incredible opportunities, it also comes with challenges that need to be addressed. That's why YouTube is always striving to protect our community from harmful content by finding the right balance between creative expression and responsibility. YouTube has four (4Rs) approaches to creating a healthy environment. Remove content that violates the policy as soon as possible, reduce the spread of false information that may harm users and content that has the potential to violate the policy, and ensure that users receive news and information when they search for news and information. It is about giving priority to sources and rewarding trusted creators and artists who have met their qualifications.

How is YouTube removing harmful content?

YouTube's commitment to being a responsible platform begins with our Community Guide . These policies are designed to keep our community safe, stipulate what content is and is not allowed on YouTube, and apply to all types of content that exists on the platform, including videos, comments, links, and thumbnails. YouTube policies cover things like hate speech, harassment, child protection, and violent extremism.
Each policy was developed in collaboration with YouTube creators, along with a variety of outside industry and policy experts, and systematically reviewed to reflect current issues. For example, in 2019 there were important updates to our Hate Speech and Harassment Policy, in 2020 we launched a policy to combat harmful conspiracy theories content, and in 2020 our policy to prevent misleading COVID-19 medical information continued to be updated during the pandemic .
With the help of human review and machine learning, YouTube removes content that violates YouTube's policies as quickly as possible and detects suspicious content in bulk. In addition, we receive reports of questionable content directly from the YouTube community as well as experts participating in the Trusted Reporter Program. Various efforts are also being made to ensure that content that violates our policies is not viewed by the majority (or no one) before it is removed. Our automated reporting system helps detect and review content before it's exposed to the community.
Once such content is identified, content reviewers evaluate it for policy violations. Content found to be in violation of the policy will be removed and will be used to train machines to improve detection capabilities in the future. Content reviewers are also responsible for protecting content with clear educational, documentary, scientific, and artistic {EDSA} intent.

How does YouTube prevent the spread of misinformation and potentially violating content that can harm users?

Although the YouTube Community Guidelines set out the rules that YouTube content must follow, there is always content that can be problematic, even if it doesn't violate our policies. Less than 1% of content viewed on YouTube is likely to violate these policies. But less than 1% is too much.

Accordingly, to prevent the spread of potentially violating content, we announced changes to our recommendation system in 2019, which resulted in a 70% reduction in the amount of time watching such content on non-subscribed custom videos that year (USA) standard). Other regions have also seen less time watching potentially violating content on custom videos. We've also made changes to our recommendation system from March 2021 to reduce potentially violating content in all regions where YouTube is served. YouTube will continue to work hard to reduce recommendations for potentially violating content. While algorithmic changes may take some time to take effect, and views of potentially violating content may fluctuate, YouTube's goal is to reduce the proportion of potentially violating content viewed on non-subscribed custom videos to less than 0.5% of the total. is to keep it as.
How does YouTube prioritize credible content?
Many signals, such as relevance and popularity, are important criteria for determining which videos are commonly exposed on YouTube searches and custom videos. But when it comes to topics like news, politics, health care, and scientific information, nothing is more important than credibility. This is why we have introduced a set of functions to solve this problem from various angles.
For example, if there is a high probability of misinformation about newsworthy events and topics, we prioritize information from trusted sources in search results and custom videos. There are also product features such as a Breaking News section and a Top News section that only collect relevant videos from reputable news sources.
Context is important when judging information, so to help you judge for yourself what you find on YouTube, certain search results and videos are accompanied by information panels with text-based inform

How is YouTube rewarding creators and artists they trust?
Joining the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) is an important milestone in the growth of any creator. Creators who join YPP can monetize their content as well as receive dedicated support and other benefits.
Over the past few years, YouTube has taken steps to tighten monetization requirements to prevent spammers, impersonators, and other malicious users from harming the YouTube ecosystem or taking advantage of creators who have dedicated their time, energy, and passion to creating quality content. .
Channels wishing to apply for YPP membership must meet eligibility criteria for watch time and subscriber count. When you sign up, YouTube's review team will ensure that only channels that meet the eligibility criteria and follow all guidelines are eligible to join the program, allowing them to access advertising and other monetization products.
As outlined in our Advertiser-Friendly Content Guidelines , advertisers generally don't want their ads to appear on controversial or sensitive YouTube content. Videos that have ad monetization enabled for their video, but are determined by YouTube reviewers and automated systems to not comply with our advertiser-friendly content guidelines, will be marked with an ad restriction or exclusion . In this case, this video cannot be monetized. For serious or repeated violations of YouTube's monetization policies, the creator's channel may be suspended from YPP.
YouTube takes responsibility very seriously and we always do everything we do with this perspective. Not being appropriate from a user and business perspective outweighs all other considerations.
